Did You Know ?

Last week we received an inquiry from Jennah of New York:

Q. Did the fender slots on the 1968 Corvette have any real purpose or were they just for styling?

A. Thanks Jennah for you question. The new design for the Corvette brought about many new styling features including bulging fenders, elongated curves, and the loss of the Sting Ray badging

.

But the fender slots were more than style - they helped remove heat from a very large and very hot engine. It seems the new body design created an engine compartment heat problem and the engineers needed some way to lower the temperature in the fiberglass body.
