Did You Know ?

September 20, 2001
Last week we received an inquiry from Carry of Manitoba, Canada:

Q. Did Chevrolet ever build a 1967 or 1968 Camaro with a 427 cubic inch engine?

A. Hello to our readers in Canada! Thank you for the question about the famed Yenko camaros. No, you didn't mention Yenko - but that is where the answer lies.

Chevrolet did not factory install any 427 engines in the 1967 Camaro, but at the request of racing Dealer Don Yenko of Pennsylvania, a quiet deal was made to produce a few of these cars in the factory to be sold by Yenko. A total of 68 of these cars were produced by Chevrolet in 1968, all sold exclusively through Yenko. This saved him the trouble of removing 396 engines from the cars and installing the bigger blocks.

Above you see picture one of 12 surviving 1967 Yenkos (54 total built). It is owned by Jim Parks. Thanks to The Camaro Homepage Website for this picture. Visit the link to learn more about these fabulous, fast, and rare sport cars.
